My son started VEG in 6th grade and my only wish was that we found it sooner. He absolutely loves the program and everything it has to offer and can not say enough good things about the founder and teacher Mrs. P. The kids cover so much material it is amazing and to think their minds are on such a level to absorb all the material while they are having a fun time doing it with other kids like them. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for that extra special person to guide and enrich their child and keep that sparkle in their eye and thirst of knowledge going. Very grateful for VEG.
The past year at Village East (our first) has been a wonderful experience for my daughter. It's a safe, encouraging environment where she has been allowed the freedom to express herself without the confines of a traditional classroom. The imaginative projects have allowed her cerebral talents to be exercised and she looks forward to each week with excitement (no kidding!). Tobi Phillips is a gifted teacher who makes learning things like grammar and punctuation fun by turning the lessons into games (the local schools would benefit greatly by using some of her methods!) She is nurturing, generous, and truly cares for her students' progress. I highly recommend the program for children who are talented learners and for parents who want their child to have fun while learning.
VEG is one of a kind! Students are taught everything from Latin to sign language to the political map of Europe to artificial organ robotics. The children are engaged in the material in such unique, creative and interactive ways that they don't even realize they are learning. They think they are just playing! My daughter looks forward every VEG class and we will be at VEG for years to come.
My children had no gifted and talented program in their school district. They were not challenged and started showing bad habits in their studying. I spoke with Mrs. P. and felt very comfortable bringing my 6 year old son to Village East Gifted. After the first class, he couldn't stop talking about the great things he did. There was an excitement in him that was lacking from his elementary school. He was like a sponge soaking up Latin, Geography, and anything else she taught. It was the perfect fit for him. Now a few years later, my youngest son goes to VEG with the same excitement every week. I am disappointed in all of the stressing of math and English ONLY in the schools. Science and other disciplines are neglected and VEG fills the void. Mrs. P. has a love and passion for these children. VEG (and Mrs. P.) is an memory my boys will never forget.
VEG is truly a unique program. For five years now, my 2 sons have been involved in the program and fortunate enough to benefit from the higher level of education that Toby provides. My kids love their regular school but were not challenged enough educationally, so finding this program and Toby was a gem for us. From the very first class both of my boys were hooked. She provides a fun, challenging and interactive approach to teaching the class which makes the boys both strive to learn more and want to come back to class week after week. The program offers a multitude of topics which are so beneficial but that just aren't taught in the traditional school setting at such a young age.........anatomy and physiology, biomedical studies, microscope analysis, infectious disease and pathology, engineering, genetics, forensic studies, latin root words and geography. Toby has dedicated all of her knowledge and love of teaching gifted children to this program and that is what I believe TRULY sets this program apart from anything else we have experienced. I would recommend this program to anyone with gifted children.
This is by far the finest program I have ever encountered! My son absolutely loves VEG! Even after having a long day at school, he looks forward to his 3 hours at VEG each week. As an educator myself, he has learned many more things that the school systems do not cover as extensively as they cover at VEG. Additionally, their methodology for teaching provides an engaging and motivating environment. We are truly lucky to be a part of this family and look forward to many more years ahead!
There is no other program I would consider. My son tried the Hofstra and CW Post gifted programs, both use a lecture instruction format. VEG engages gifted minds. Instruction is hands on and immersive, using their mind and body. There is no "sit and listen" in this program. It's "get up and do". My son has been a VEG student for 3 years and hates to miss a class. Whether the subject is making holograms or learning Greek and Latin root words, he comes out of each class energized. Tobi Phillips has developed a program that nurtures gifted minds and challenges them to reach their potential.
There aren't enough adjectives to describe the love and excited my son has for this school. From day one, when he came out from his first class he had the biggest smile ever and has kept that joy and enthusiasm for several years of attendance. He learns more there in a 2 hour class than anywhere else. They cover such an array of subjects that broaden his overall intelligence and better prepares him for his future academics. This class is never a chore for him, on the contrary, he would be very upset if he ever had to miss it. We are very thankful to be able to be a part of such a positive and enriching environment. Truly special, thank you.
The program at VEG is truly extraordinary. The lessons provided are creative, informative and fun! My daughter's education is greatly enhanced by the teachings here and she has developed many friendships with children of like mind and energy. Thank you!
What an amazing program for gifted children! My kids have been attending Village East Gifted for 6 years now and the founder, Tobi, has created a safe, wonderful environment for gifted kids to thrive and gain a level of true enrichment not found anywhere else. The fast pace learning style keeps the kids engaged and having fun every step of the way. We are lucky and grateful to have found VEG! My kids would be bored out of their minds without it. VEG builds their confidence and shows them their true potential while nourishing their hunger for knowledge.
